Britney Spears has clarified a controversial comment she made about Christina Aguilera and her dancers.
On Monday, the Toxic hitmaker took to Instagram to share a quote for the late comedian Rodney Dangerfield, which read, “I found there was only one way to look skinny: hanging out with fat people.”
In the caption, Britney wrote, “I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers, I would look so much younger.”
When fans accused the pop superstar of shaming Christina and her team, she returned to the stage on Tuesday and explained what she meant.
“I was in no way criticizing Christina’s beautiful body, that’s what it is!!!” The 40-year-old insisted. “I once flew to see her show and the main thing I noticed was the difference of our people on stage!!! By no means did I even mention Christina, look at my post!!! Was inspired by the show and she is a beautiful lady of power…Thank you @xtina for inspiring me!!! To be honest, I’m not trying to criticize anyone.”
Brittany insisted that her post was actually a “projection of insecurities” as a result of her musical career and 13 years of conservatism. The agreement was finally terminated last November.
“I wouldn’t intentionally embarrass someone because I know how it feels… I struggle with it because of how I feel about myself, not because I hate the looks of someone… Looks like my family knew I was insecure and people were trying to purposefully feed into this insecurity by giving me no choice in the people on stage with me. I appreciate that you all are understanding with me Because I am living this new life!!!” Singer added.
Christina has yet to comment on the drama, although she reportedly unfollowed Britney on Instagram.
