The range of dog nutraceutical products emerged in Mexico during the pandemic lockdown, as dog owners raised awareness of the health needs of their dogs.
Avivagen, a disruptive Canadian company, and its strategic partner Mayenberg International Group recently moved their flagship product operations to Mexico. Called Vivamune, it is a natural supplement designed to support the immune system and help combat certain diseases, including skin and hair problems.
This nutraceutical product contains OxC-beta, a patented ingredient made from oxidized beta-carotene that has been shown to be effective in numerous trials around the world not only for dogs but also for livestock species.
Nutraceutical test results in 44 dogs
TripleThree International operated a pilot program with 44 dogs in three Mexican cities. The trial involved supplying Vivamune to a group of dogs every day for at least three weeks during July 2021. Test results showed that Vivamune improved the overall health of dogs, according to a survey of pet owners.
Before testing, less than half of the dogs manifested a chronic or short-term illness. Of this subgroup, nearly all owners reported health improvements in their dogs after taking Vivamune. For example, two senior dogs with low levels of activity revealed greater vitality. One suffering from allergies, another suffering from anemia and three more dogs that were overweight showed improved activity and vitality, according to their owners.
Three owners whose dogs suffered from panic attacks said their condition improved after taking Vivamune. Finally, four dogs with skin and hair problems showed an increase, while one dog with urinary problems showed an improvement in their condition.
The results are in line with other tests conducted in Canada.
Functional benefits are now needed for dog treats
Given owners’ growing awareness of the well-being of their dogs, functional dog treats including natural ingredients may soon be in greater demand.
There is a wide range of treat products on the market. Nevertheless, most do not offer characteristics intended to improve a dog’s well-being. Therefore, the next wave of products will require tangible results in pet health.
Vivamune is an example of how scientific research and development are necessary to create disintegrating products that are suitable for the next generation of dog nutraceutical supplements.
