Discipline for your workout regime not only brings you closer to your weight loss or muscle gain goal, but it also helps you:

1. Raise Self-Esteem

Exercising clears the mind and energizes the body. It naturally gives a sense of confidence to a person. A 2016 study published in the International Journal of High Risk Behavior and Addiction, Effects of Physical Activity on Self-Esteem, found that exercise increases self-esteem. ‘The participants saw improvements in academic, family, social and general self-esteem.

2. Increase Decision Making Ability

Initially, making the decision to lead a life of healthy choices is a complex decision in itself biologically, socially and emotionally. Over time, exercising improves brain function, leading to improved cognitive abilities.

3. Improve Your Mental Health

Exercise helps reduce anxiety, depression and negative mood. According to a 2006 study, aerobic exercise, which includes jogging, swimming, cycling, walking, gardening and dancing, has a direct impact on mental health.

4. Improve Time Management

Most of us nowadays find ourselves running pillar-to-post to complete our day’s to-do list. In such a situation, time management becomes very important. Not only does exercise help you reduce stress, but it also helps you find balance besides boosting your energy levels. It gives you the ability to think calmly and rationally, which gives you enough time to do whatever you want to do.

5. Enhancing Learning

Harvard Medical School professor Dr John J. According to Ratey, exercising helps prepare the brain to learn new things and also makes it easier to retain information. It makes you more alert and enhances memory. A 2014 study suggests that regular aerobic exercise can increase the size of the hippocampus, a brain region particularly involved in verbal memory and learning.

6. Develop Leadership Skills

Focus, confidence, creativity, learning, energy, balance, patience and discipline – exercise can teach you how to be a better leader.

“I truly believe that discipline and consistency are the keys to growth and moving forward. You may be inspired, but you may have a limited temporary period of fame and success without them,” says Bahl.

Plus, maintaining an active lifestyle doesn’t have to be challenging or take up your entire day. Even 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day can dramatically increase your health and well-being. Remember, consistency is the key.
