Kidney transplant occurs when a person is suffering from chronic kidney disease. Kidney transplantation is the permanent placement of a healthy kidney from a living or dead person in a patient whose kidneys no longer function properly. A kidney transplant can effectively treat chronic kidney disease and allow patients to lead normal lives for years.

This may lead to the need for some changes in your diet and activities. But kidney transplant can be a life-saving decision for people.

Know about kidney transplant

In case of kidney failure, doctors recommend dialysis or transplant. In a kidney transplant, your doctor will transplant a kidney from a healthy person into your own body. It can affect one or both kidneys. A healthy person or donor is a person whose blood group matches yours. Be careful about kidney stones to see if you need surgery for it.

Your doctor will recommend a transplant only if dialysis is not suitable for you. The implant may be dangerous for you if you have other medical conditions. Such conditions include cancer, tuberculosis, heart disease, liver disease, bone infections or hepatitis.

Why do doctors recommend kidney transplant?

1. Quality of Life

According to studies, people who receive transplants live longer than those who receive dialysis. Higher quality of life is more likely. They do not have to spend hours each week on dialysis, and are more likely to return to work.

2. Lower Limitations on Diet

A kidney transplant will ensure fewer long-term health problems than those on dialysis.

3. More Energy

Dialysis can be heavy on the body at times. This can cause problems ranging from anemia, where you have fewer red blood cells, to heart disease.

When do you need a kidney transplant?

The transplant committee will tell you when your kidney will stop working for the transplant. Before the transplant, your doctor and the transplant committee will perform a number of tests, such as a blood test, and approve the need for a transplant.
This ensures that you are suitable for the kidney transplant procedure and only after that the procedure is performed.

Factors that are considered before surgery include whether the kidney has come from a living donor, how well the kidney is matched in terms of blood group and tissue type, and the recipient’s age and overall health.

In the meantime, you will be on temporary dialysis for filtration. Medical diagnosis determines whether a person needs a kidney transplant. The following are situations that may call for a transplant:

*congenital renal obstructive disorder
*Alport syndrome
* Nail – Patella Syndrome
*Burger’s disease
*Goodpasture syndrome
* polycystic kidney disease
* hemolytic uremic syndrome

Transplantation may be required in such situations, but it is not always necessary. Your doctor will decide based on your condition and severity. To avoid any kind of kidney disease, you need to keep your kidney healthy.

Choosing a good transplant hospital increases your chances of living a long and healthy life. The transplant is successful if the patient takes the necessary immunosuppressant medications and receives appropriate follow-up care after the procedure to prevent the body’s immune system from rejecting the new organ.
