Columbus, Ohio – Jenny’s Splendid Ice Cream announced that it is releasing its latest flavor, Sunshine, as part of a movement to break the stigma about children’s mental health.

For the launch of the special flavor, the ice cream company partnered with On Our Sleeves, an organization created by Nationwide Children’s Hospital to support children through advocacy, education, and research.

Jenny’s new flavor comes in a gray container, and the color of the ice cream itself is described by the company as a muted gray, similar to a rain cloud. But the flavor contains citrus ingredients and is called Sunshine, and the packaging includes the tag line, “Tastes like sunshine on a cloudy day.” The company shared that it got its inspiration for the concept from Depressed Cake Shop, an online platform designed to raise awareness about the challenges of mental health issues. Its Sunshine flavor was designed as a reminder “that things aren’t always what they seem.”

Coinciding with the release of the new flavors, which launched just before Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Jenny’s donated $25,000 to help On Our Sleeves distribute a “kindness kit” designed to help kids practice kindness. Contains information and activities to help you learn about 30,000 children in classrooms across America.

During May, Jenny’s is also accepting donations to support On Our Sleeves at her Scoop Shops. Plus, its shops will provide conversation starters with behavioral health experts to foster interaction with children.

“Even before the pandemic, we were seeing alarming trends in children’s mental health,” said Dr. Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s pediatric psychologist and clinical director of On Our Sleeves. Ariana Hoyt said. “This is why it is important to provide resources and information to parents, caregivers, and teachers to better understand children in their lives. By having important conversations and building daily check-in habits, we help children Equipping them with the resources they need. Their mental health and feel comfortable asking for help when they need it. We draw from Jenny’s commitment to supporting child mental health and continuing these conversations on One Scoop of Sunshine Very excited.”

The new limited edition flavor can be purchased at Jenny’s stores, as well as online at jenis.com
